- We found no way for a local business to submit itself to ChatGPT on its own. OpenAI's one documented feed for local service firms is a beta limited to approved partners, which pass ChatGPT the businesses on their platforms. The feed powers a Get Quote button.
- The records behind ChatGPT's local answers already have a field for quote links from that partner program. In 16 local answers we captured on Sept. 23, 2026, the field was filled for 73 of 169 businesses, and all 73 named Yelp.
- Every one of those quote links went to a request-a-quote page on yelp.com. Each carried a tag identifying OpenAI as the source.
- For most owners, the Get Quote route runs through a partner platform. Start by checking whether your Yelp page is set up to receive quote requests.
- Other ways in include apps that platforms build inside ChatGPT, restaurant reservations through partners, and ads. A site ChatGPT can read and a correct listing offer an everyday route.
- We haven't tested whether a filled quote field changes a business's chances of appearing on a ChatGPT card or getting a mention in the reply.
Can a local business put itself into ChatGPT?
No, not by itself, according to OpenAI's documentation. Platforms can apply to supply ChatGPT with feeds of the businesses they list. OpenAI sets out the local-services route in its "Local services Get Quote conversion spec," which says, "Local services Get Quote conversion plugins in ChatGPT are currently in beta and being tested with approved partners." To request access, OpenAI says to "complete the ChatGPT merchants form."
For the business feed, the spec asks a partner to supply "a paginated collection of local business records." OpenAI says, "ChatGPT indexes these records for search and uses their service provider data to determine whether a business supports Get Quote." The spec also calls for a partner tool that launches the partner's own quote form within ChatGPT, and OpenAI says "the business card or sidebar can display a Get Quote button" when someone looks up an eligible business. ChatGPT "displays the button only when the business has an eligible service provider and that provider has a configured partner plugin."
Each business record in the feed must include an ID, name, address, map coordinates, phone number, website, and a "canonical listing URL for the business" hosted on the partner's site. Businesses that accept quote requests also need a service_providers entry. It holds the partner name, which OpenAI says "must match the configured partner plugin," the partner's own ID for that business, the action request_a_quote, and a link to the partner's quote page.
The spec suits platforms with many listed businesses because it calls for a paginated feed, a listing page for each business on the partner's site, and a provider name tied to the partner's plugin. It doesn't rule out a single business applying, and it doesn't describe one that did. Publishing a ChatGPT app in general is open to a wider set of people, though OpenAI's submission rules require "individual verification" to publish in your own name or "business verification" to publish in a company's name. That app-publishing path is separate from the card's Get Quote beta, which requires a request through the merchants form.

The quote field in ChatGPT's business records
Every business record feeding ChatGPT's local card has a field for the Get Quote program, and every filled field in our captures named Yelp. The field is called service_providers, matching the name in OpenAI's spec. It appeared on every record in both capture sets, including 16 logged-in captures on Sept. 23, 2026, with 57 fields per record and 60 captures on Sept. 8 with 56 fields per record.
The quote field was filled for 73 of 169 businesses across the Sept. 23 answers and 151 of 658 on Sept. 8. Each entry named Yelp as the provider and request_a_quote as the action. Its launcher carried the entry's own business ID and called the request_service tool to show the ui://widget/request-service.html widget as a modal. This matches the contract in OpenAI's spec.
All 102 quote links on Sept. 23 and all 211 on Sept. 8 led to yelp.com request-a-quote pages with utm_source=openai and utm_medium=feed_v2 tags. The six steps behind one local answer shows where these records live in ChatGPT's data.
In its Aug. 10, 2026, post announcing ChatGPT bookings, Yelp said the bookings feature "builds on our existing content integration." The post says the integration surfaces "Yelp's trusted reviews, ratings, photos, and business details directly within the chat experience," and names requesting "quotes from service providers" among the things platforms, including ChatGPT, do with Yelp. Search Engine Land reported in July that Yelp was licensing that content to OpenAI.
These records show an answer's contents, though they don't reveal where ChatGPT got its business list. The card's business identity follows Google's listing data, as covered in our guide's section on local sources. A filled quote field is separate from the card's star rating. Of the 73 businesses with a filled quote field on Sept. 23, the records for 48 carried Yelp's rating logo and those for 25 didn't.
The field appeared at roughly the same rate among the few businesses a customer sees first and those behind Expand. For a descriptive comparison, the Sept. 23 counts were 27 of 59 businesses a customer sees first and 42 of 97 behind Expand. On Sept. 8, the counts were 50 of 215 and 84 of 390. The counts can't tell us whether the field helps, and we haven't tested whether a filled field affects a business's chance of being on the card or named in the answer.
Other ways into ChatGPT
Platforms can build apps within ChatGPT, restaurants can take reservations through partners, and advertisers can pay for ads. Any business can also be found through a site ChatGPT can read and a correct listing.
Platform-built apps. OpenAI calls these plugins, packages "people discover, install, share, and publish in ChatGPT and Codex" from one shared directory. In October 2025, Thumbtack announced it was building a ChatGPT app with OpenAI's Apps SDK so users could "discover, connect with, and hire skilled professionals from Thumbtack's trusted marketplace." On March 4, 2026, Angi announced its ChatGPT app had launched and said homeowners get pro recommendations there, then are "directed to Angi" when they click one or ask for a quote. We haven't checked whether either app is live or how either picks the pros it displays.
Restaurant bookings. OpenAI says ChatGPT "may show availability from OpenTable, Resy, or Yelp" depending on the restaurant. OpenAI describes its reservation spec for restaurants as another beta "being tested with approved partners."
Ads. OpenAI sells ads on ChatGPT's Free and Go plans. Our ChatGPT ads findings include which lead marketplaces paid for them.
The ordinary route. OpenAI says "Any public website can appear in ChatGPT search" if OAI-SearchBot, its search crawler, isn't blocked. For the card, check your listing first for a correct address in the town your customers name and your trade as its primary category. You can find out whether AI crawlers reach your site with a few minutes' check.
What to do now
Confirm that the platform already connected to ChatGPT accepts your quote requests, keep your listings correct, and make the quote and booking forms on your own site simple to use.
- Claim your Yelp page and turn on quote requests. Yelp says owners of claimed pages get requests through "the Message the Business or Request a Quote feature." On the Yelp for Business website, open Inbox, then Settings, and "Toggle on Messaging Leads." Yelp says you can't change that setting in the Yelp for Business app.
- Reply to requests within a week. Yelp's help page warns, "If you go 7 days without replying to a new message and you have not responded to any message in the past 30 days, the feature will be automatically disabled." We haven't tested whether that also removes a business's quote field in ChatGPT.
- Keep your listings correct. Check your name, address, phone, hours, and primary category on both Google and Yelp. Card rows hold listing data, and star ratings on the card come from Yelp more often than Google, as covered in our guide's section on star ratings.
- Make your site's forms easy to use. OpenAI says the Atlas browser agent uses ARIA labels and roles, the markup screen readers rely on to understand buttons, menus, and forms. Clear labels help both an agent and a person use your site's quote and booking forms.
- Ask what "submit" means before paying. If a vendor pitches getting you into ChatGPT, ask them to name the OpenAI program. OpenAI's only documented local-business feed is a beta for partners.
Look for your business on ChatGPT's card
Open a temporary chat set to Unpersonalized, ask "best [your trade] in [your city]," and look for your business on the card or under Expand. Check whether it shows a quote button. OpenAI's spec labels that button Get Quote.

What we don't know yet
We don't know whether a filled quote field improves a business's odds of appearing in a card or getting mentioned, and we haven't found or run a test. We also don't know whether OpenAI will let individual businesses into the program or which partners besides Yelp are live, and Yelp is the only provider we've observed. We don't yet know how the partner feed connects to the card's other fields. Some records have a separate field named provider with the value yelp-feed, and on Sept. 23, that value didn't line up with the quote field, as 10 of the 20 businesses carrying it had a filled quote field and 10 had an empty one.
